A plane passenger who switched seats to allow a fellow traveler’s son to have the window spot was left horrified after he went barefoot the entire flight.

The unnamed man, from the UK, took to Reddit‘s popular Mildly Infuriating thread to unravel the details of the trip with American Airlines.

He uploaded a snapshot of feet tucked over each other and pressed up against the row in front.

And dozens of readers were left bitterly divided in the comments.

The post, which was shared earlier this month, explained: ‘Gave up my window seat for this guy’s kid as he looked super happy about it and didn’t have the heart to say “no.”

‘I get the middle seat in the middle isle, and the dad does this all flight. Just gross.’

Elaborating further in the comments, he wrote: ‘I should’ve said “no.” Feel like a mug for allowing this to happen. Hopefully some good karma inbound.

‘I’m usually pretty good at telling someone to f**k off when warranted, but was just so tired, I couldn’t be a**ed and fell asleep.

‘I just ended up falling asleep, and used a blanket as a barrier. Sometimes I just can’t be f**ked to argue.’

The contributor continued: ‘I actually went to the girls in the back galley, and explained the situation, and [asked] if I might be able switch seats, they confirmed the flight was full.

‘They also said I should have said “no” when the dad begged for his kid [to sit] in the seat, which I agreed.

‘I did speak with the flight attendant about this and the fact the woman in front of him couldn’t put her seat down due to the position he was in.’

Many users sided with the disgruntled passenger as one wrote: ‘Feet in general are gross. And just because they look clean, doesn¿t mean they smell clean and fresh’

He added: ‘Just glad I’m back home in UK now. Kicking myself for this s***show, and not saying anything to the guy, but I’ll live.

‘I didn’t pay any extra for the seat, thankfully. I wouldn’t have allowed it if I’d paid extra for it. Lessons learnt indeed!

‘I try and and do nice things, but as you say, people do take advantage.

‘Learnt that in my career – don’t always be the guy to be able to fix everything at the drop of a hat, otherwise you’ll be worked into the ground. Know when to say “no” to certain jobs.’

And, unsurprisingly, the post sparked fierce debate in the comments.

Many users sided with the disgruntled passenger as one wrote: ‘Feet in general are gross. And just because they look clean, doesn’t mean they smell clean and fresh.’

Another quipped: ‘Use a small fork to poke him or get a feather from anywhere and tickle him.’

‘This is where a well-timed sneeze comes in,’ someone else joked as another urged: ‘People. Speak up. Come on.’

But there were those that did not see an issue with the fellow traveler going barefoot

But there were those that did not see an issue with the fellow traveler going barefoot.

One person wrote: ‘Are we really at a point as a society where feet existing offends us? I don’t quite understand the ick, but as we’re made up of many different cultures, it’s important to speak up.

‘No reason to suffer in silence to avoid offending a total stranger. I mean, it wasn’t something on his mind obviously.’

Another quizzed: ‘Yeah, why are clean feet disgusting? We don’t all wear the same pair of shoes every day, without socks.

‘Feet don’t have to smell bad. My feet are about as clean as my elbows. Are there people with elbow phobias too?’

Someone else observed: ‘Why do people freak out about feet? They’re like floor hands.’
