Walking the ‘Business Beat’ with GIPD Chief Kevin Denney

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – Grand Island Police Chief Kevin Denney is taking the term boots on the ground to a whole new level, and he’s helping small businesses here in the city in the process.

Denney is working with local businesses to record a segment called the ‘Business Beat’, his goal is to talk to several entrepreneurs in downtown Grand Island, and he is starting with Tacos Los Hermanos.

Denney said this is how he wants policing done in the city, with officers and leadership getting to know the community, and Chief Denney said he has an unusual goal for the next couple years.

“If I can wear through three or four pairs of boots over the next couple years, and keep the same desk chair, then I’m completely happy with that arrangement,” Denney told Local4 News. “You’ll see me here on Fourth Street. On Business Beat, we’re gonna be on Fourth Street, on Third Street, in all the businesses we can find here in Grand Island highlighting the tremendous work that their doing.”

Agustin Sanchez, owner of Tacos Los Hermanos said appreciate having the open dialogue.

“It felt really cool, it felt really cool, I don’t know if I thought I was dreaming or something, but I never expected them to come out and do something like that, it’s pretty cool and it’s a great idea what their doing,” Sanchez said. “I think it’s gonna help out other businesses, motivate other people starting to never give up and keep going.”

Chief Denney said the first episode of the series should be on the city’s website and social media in the coming weeks.
