Travel Retail Consortium ‘TRC Open Hangar Doors’ event, raises £1650 for charity

The Travel Retail Consortium hosted its annual customer event, this year titled ‘TRC Open Hangar Doors’, in Manchester earlier in the summer, as the industry group raised £1650, supporting its current charity: Family Holiday Charity.

The Open Hangar Doors event was held on 22 May and took place underneath Alpha Charlie Concorde at the Concorde Conference Centre at Manchester Airport, UK.

With its theme of aviation and inflight category focus, the event was hosted by TRC members who showcased their latest product ranges to selected customers who attended a daytime tabletop exhibition followed by a dinner. All attendees were treated to a tour onboard Concorde with a presentation from a retired pilot.

The annual TRC event is a key networking opportunity for TRC members, which exists to hold bi-monthly meetings and further the interests and development of the UK travel retail industry, through its members.

TRC Chairperson, Sharon Edwards-Smith said: “The TRC was delighted to host this year’s event underneath the Alpha Charlie Concorde, such an iconic figure representing the aviation industry. Building on our wonderful 52+ year history. The TRC’s annual gathering is our biggest event, and I was happy to see so many of our members engaging in business as well as an informal opportunity to socialise.

“We had a great turnout this year; we welcomed industry guests from major travel retailers including Avolta and Lagardère as well as the likes of EasyJet, Harding+, TUI, DFDS and Gate Group.”

14 category members took part in the brand showcase, these included: Au Vodka, Accolade Wines, Aurora World, Coti Vision, Champagne Taittinger, Edinburgh Gin, Harrogate Water, Molton Brown, Mondottica, Imperial Brands, Kurate International, Remy Cointreau, Sekonda and Bluedog Group.

During the evening, there was a Champagne reception courtesy of TRC member Champagne Taittinger, which was followed by a speech from Mags Rivett of Family Holiday Charity.

TRC’s nominated charity for 2024 is the Family Holiday Charity, which helps families that are going through difficult situations to get time away together – often for the first time ever – to build happy memories, confidence and hope for the future.

TRC Open Hangar Doors attendees raised £825 charitable donations on the night, which has now been matched by the TRC; achieving a total of £1650. This sum was presented to the Family Holiday Charity in early June.

Avolta External Affairs Advisor, Sarah Branquinho said: “A huge thank you to all the members of the TRC for such an interesting day and dinner, and for the considerable amount of organisation behind the event. As always, it was a great opportunity for informal conversations, and it was a trip down memory lane for Erik who had flown on Concorde a few times.”

DFDS Head of Global Retail, Michael Stewart said: “Just wanted to drop you a note to send a massive thank you on behalf of DFDS for the event. It was great to meet up with the TRC team and other industry colleagues new and old in a unique environment. The day was pitched perfectly giving great opportunities to network and celebrate another year in travel retail. It was much appreciated by the team and our industry.”

GMAX Travel Retail Director, Garry Maxwell commented: “GMAX Travel Retail is very pleased to be a new member of the Travel Retail Consortium with Au Vodka and to have taken part in the recent event in Manchester. This superbly organised event gave us the opportunity to showcase Au Vodka to wide number of travel retail customers in a relaxed and informal setting. Overall, it was a great event to meet old and new friends in the industry, to have some fun and raise money for an excellent cause. We are looking forward to the next one! Many thanks to everyone at the TRC for making this a day to remember.”
