The greatest soulslike game since Elden Ring could be making a return with a new DLC

Must read

Elden Ring gives you the sweeping, majestic (and brutally hard) open world to explore, and Dark Souls pioneered the entire genre, perfecting and popularizing it after Demon’s Souls. Those two games remain the staples of the entire soulslike world, but Lords of the Fallen, The Surge, and Remnant have all twisted and tweaked the mechanics and aesthetic – and Lies of P goes a little further. Injecting the FromSoftware formula into the grimdark world of classic fairytales, Neowiz’s 2023 opus feels like a Souls game crossed with a steampunk RPG, combining grounded melee combat with more fantastical flourishes and flair. If you haven’t played it yet, now might be the time, as a fresh report suggests a new Lies of P DLC could be coming very soon, and that Neowiz and co-developer Round 8 are moving onto survival horror.

At its core, Lies of P tells the story of Pinocchio, but the entire fable is transplanted from rural Italy to a baroque, quasi-Victorian world with giant brass mechanoids and simmering social tensions. A super-hard RPG, it still boasts a 92% positive rating on Steam. In our own Lies of P review, Lauren gives the game similar plaudits, calling it the “best soulslike since Elden Ring.” Now, Lies of P might be about to make a return.

According to a report from Korean publication EBN, a new Lies of P DLC is already in the works and due to be released during the first quarter of 2025, meaning it would be with us sometime between January and March. The report (translated into English by Google) also says that Round 8, a section of larger developer Neowiz, and co-creator of Lies of P, is beginning work on a new survival horror game.

The report quotes an unnamed Neowiz official who says that “it is still too early to disclose the progress of the project,” but that it is “one of” the upcoming games that Round 8 is “preparing.”

Between Civilization 7, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Avowed, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the first three months of 2025 are looking pretty packed already, but if Lies of P really is getting DLC – and if it’s anything close to Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree – this could be worth adding to your list.
