Eighth-grader Emerson Gotschall earned the top spot during the Southern Local School District Spelling Bee Feb. 7 after successfully spelling “lavish” in the ninth round. About 16 students participated in the event with seventh-grader Addisyn Andrenok placing second and eighth-grader Delaney Beadnell earning third. Gotschall, the daughter of Dawn Gotschall of Salineville, will join Andrenok and Beadnell at the Columbiana County Spelling Bee on March 2 and compete for a chance to attend the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. this May.
