Must read

Riverside Manor, a 33,435-square-foot estate on the Thames in Bourne End has been listed on property website RightMove for over two years, initially with an eye-watering price tag of £36.5 million.

The ‘palatial’ 11-bed mansion, which also comprises an ‘in and out’ drive, a tennis court and a riverside courtyard, is still the most expensive house on the Bucks property market – but has now dropped its asking price to an ever-so-slightly more reasonable £25.5 million.

It was designed by London-based architects EPR in coordination with William Bertram and is perfectly placed on the river to overlook the Berkshire village of Cookham.

Photos of the home’s interior show an impressive main entrance hall with two sweeping staircases – an alternative means of travel to a handy service lift – and a modern-looking family kitchen with a swish built-in dining area.

A first-floor dining room, study, sitting room, drawing room and designated ‘river room’ all have first-class views of the Thames and are surrounded by a wrap-around terrace perfect for warm weather entertaining.

The master bedroom suite also has a private sitting room and balcony, and six other bedrooms on the same floor similarly look out onto the estate’s 4.5-acre grounds or up and down the river.

Included in the hefty price tag are three staff apartments, a home cinema, a guest house and a boat house with sleeping facilities.

Riverside Manor’s entertainment offerings are also seemingly endless – with a home cinema and an indoor swimming pool and spa complex, complete with a sauna, spa bath, indoor pool, gymnasium and treatment room.

Agent Knight Frank describes the mansion as a “palatial” build, set among “beautifully landscaped gardens with a superb view of the river”.

They also draw focus to its handy location and quick transport links – just one mile from both Bourne End and Cookham, four miles from Marlow and 11 from Henley-on-Thames.

Adding: “The property is well-located for access to London via the M40 or M4 and to Heathrow Airport, together with excellent top-class schools and restaurants nearby including Fat Duck at Bray.”
