Memphis-area boys basketball rankings: Ridgeway climbs in poll

The district tournaments are beginning for Tennessee high school, Division I boys basketball teams this week. Here’s The Commercial Appeal boys rankings ahead of the postseason.  

1. Cordova (26-1): The Wolves finish the regular season as the No. 1 team the area. They’ll also host this year’s District 15-4A tournament. Last week’s ranking: No. 1.  

2. Bartlett (25-4): The Panthers lost to Montverde Academy to end the regular season but enter the district tournament as the No. 1 seed. Last week’s ranking: No. 2.  

3. Douglass (27-0): The Red Devils enter the District 15-2A tournament undefeated and city champions this week, most recently beating Mitchell on Saturday to end the regular season. Last week’s ranking: No. 3

4. Briarcrest (24-4): The Saints dominated Memphis University School on Friday night 70-34 to remain the No. 1 team in Division II-AA West region. Last week’s ranking: No. 5. 

5. FACS (21-3): The Crusaders have won the past 10 games and have the Division II-A west region tournament this week. Last week’s ranking: No. 6.  

6. Ridgeway (19-5): The Roadrunners won the 3A MSCIAA city championship over Raleigh-Egypt. They climb in the rankings just outside of the top five. Last week’s ranking: No. 8.  

7. Whitehaven (20-8): The Tigers lost to Montverde Academy on Friday ahead of the district tournament this week. Last week’s ranking: No. 7.

8. Memphis University School (19-5): The Owls have lost the past two games, falling to 2-4 in Division II-AA west region. They also fall in this week’s rankings. Last week’s ranking: No. 4. 

9. Olive Branch (25-4): The Conquistadors have won the past 10 games to end the regular season and begin postseason play against Germantown (MS) this week. Last week’s ranking: No. 9.  

10. Lewisburg (18-6): The Patriots have won 12 of the past 14 games, including four straight. They ended the regular season with a win over Horn Lake and make their debut in this week’s rankings. Last week’s ranking: Not ranked.
