Horse racing tips: Ayr and Lingfield – Tuesday February 13

Must read

Jumps racing is the main focus today, with three meetings across the afternoon in Britain and Ireland. These cards are supported by an all-weather meeting at Newcastle in the evening.

First off is Thurles (1.33-4.48) before the action continues at Ayr (1.45-5.04) and Lingfield (1.55-4.40), with the seven-race card in the North East of England completing the bill of fare (4.24-7.30).

One of our stronger Tuesday fancies, who goes for Lucinda Russell, is clearly on the up and can improve further now in trying a new longer trip.

Certainly one for the stayers, this handicap hurdle over 3m 70y will offer a stern test, with the going soft. There are a couple of last-time-out winners in the field and it is shaping up to be a very competitive affair.

One of those immediately previous victors, a charge of trainer Russell at her base in Milnathort, Kinross, is the thoroughly unexposed LADY IN THE PARK – and the six-year-old mare is certainly an interesting proposition.

This daughter of Walk In The Park has had just three starts under Rules and only two of those have come over hurdles.

She finished a narrow third to a fairly useful bumper performer, Sunset Marquesa, on her Rules debut at Aintree in October and the form has worked out well.

It was a fair effort when finishing third on her first start over hurdles at Uttoxeter in November. Russell’s inmate kept on well over a clearly inadequate trip, just shy of two miles, and the performance showed plenty of promise.

Lady In The Park needed every yard of the extended 2m 3f when getting off the mark at Wetherby last time out on Boxing Day and it is no surprise that she is quickly up in trip again here. This extended three miles on decidedly yielding ground should be ideal – and the best could be yet to come.

Making her handicap debut here, this opening mark of 108 looks very reasonable and it would be no surprise if she were to get her head in front once again.

Earlier on in the day, the Surrey venue’s first contest on its six-race card could go the way of Evan Williams’s promising six-year-old mare FOLLOWANGO, who has every chance of opening her account over hurdles.

The daughter of Ocovango won her sole Irish point and could hardly have been more impressive when bolting up on her Rules debut in a bumper at Ffos Las. She cruised through the heavy ground that day and pulled well clear to win by 19 lengths.

She was badly outpaced on her hurdles debut at Chepstow in December, but kept on well enough to take a modest third. It was a much better effort last month over the same course and distance (C&D) against her fellow mares next time out, and she only just failed to catch the winner by half a length when finishing second.

On that evidence, the step up to an extended 2m 3f should suit and this certainly is not the deepest maiden hurdle you are likely to come across. There is plenty to like about her profile and this is a cracking opportunity to get off the mark. Her partner for the previous three trips, Isabel Williams, returns and claims 3lb.

Gary Moore’s MOVETHECHAINS was an impressive winner over C&D last time out and he is well placed to make another bold bid here.

It takes a certain type of horse to win over marathon trips – and once you have found one, it is often wise to stick with them.

The son of Robin Des Champs had been out of form, but managed to bounce back in a big way when triumphing by seven lengths on January 21.

He appeared to have more than a little in hand as he was eased down by his jockey Caoilin Quinn towards the finish. This performance certainly was not missed by the handicapper, however, whacking him with a substantial 9lb rise. Rising talent Quinn is retained for pilot duties, claiming 3lb.

The only runner in the field to have won over 3m 4f or further, Movethechains has to have a significant advantage in this event and the 10-year-old appears to be the one to side with.
